03 Jun CMI Mediators Vance and Logan Cooper – Breakout Discussion Leaders At IAM Conference 2024
Cooper Mediation is pleased to announce that Toronto Mediators Vance Cooper and Logan Cooper were Breakout Discussion leaders at the International Academy of Mediators (IAM) at the Spring Conference held from May 30 – June 1 in Seattle, Washington. Over 150 attendees from 15 countries were in attendance.
This year’s conference, “Client-Centric Mediation: New Challenges, Perspectives, and Strategies,” saw a discussion of the tools available to mediators—some traditional, some new, and others almost futuristic. Attendees were challenged to review and assess how they run their practices, hear the perspectives of mediators from around the world, and add new strategies to their repertoire.
Vance led a breakout discussion on “Re-Thinking Mediation Processes.” Piggybacking on his recent paper “Don’t Read This Paper [If You’re Content With The Status Quo] – Re-Thinking Personal Injury And Insurance Mediation Processes,” he discussed two primary mediation problems and developed alternatives or solutions.
Logan co-led a breakout discussion with Barry Fisher on “Getting Personal.” The discussion focused on the use of personal stories regarding the mediator, the lawyers and the clients as a mediation tool. In addition, topics such as the use of humour, formality vs. informality, the use of first names and references to one’s personal experiences and stories were discussed.
The IAM is an organization consisting of the most successful commercial mediators in the world with membership from 35 countries. Membership is by invitation only and is a recognition by a candidate’s peers that he or she has attained status as a preeminent commercial mediator and professional in the field of alternative dispute resolution.
All three Cooper Mediation mediators are Distinguished Fellows of the IAM.
