Cooper Mediation Inc. is pleased to share that Jonathan Cooper has been featured in the September 2025 issue of WP Magazine, published by the Ontario Insurance Adjusters Association. His article, “Strategies For Dealing With Frustration At Mediation,” appears alongside insightful contributions by Michelle Panagiotakos, Ian Mendes, Sophie Smith, and Gabrielle Nigro.
In the article, Jon identifies several common sources of frustration that participants often encounter in mediation:
*Wasting valuable time
*Unrealistic and/or insulting opening offers
*Negotiation fatigue
He then outlines practical approaches for navigating these challenges and keeping negotiations productive, such as:
*Building on common ground, at least at the outset
*Using modified blind opening offers
*Entering the “ring” of resolution
*Managing negotiation fatigue
*Limiting the number of offer rounds
Each strategy is accompanied by key takeaways designed to help parties avoid the traps that often lead to stalled or unsatisfactory outcomes. Drawing on his experience as a mediator, Jon provides readers with tools to approach mediation more effectively and constructively.
